Kansas City has a really good alternative radio station that does a really good job at playing new artists and new alternative music before it gets really big. One band in particular they started playing early was the 1975. Last year they headlined a North American tour and stopped by KC. They came for a show that the Crystal Fighters, The Colourist, Portugal. The Man and The Naked and Famous were also playing. The line up was awesome and I really couldn’t wait to see them all but the 1975 was who I was most excited about. I had been a huge fan since their EP days and the fact that they were finally coming to KC was a big deal to me. I had the opportunity to see an acoustic performance by Matt Healy the lead singer of the 1975 before the real show started. It was one of the best experiences I have had. I got to sit so close to him while he sang “Sex” and “Chocolate” and after we were all able to meet him.
He was one of the nicest people I have met you could tell he loved playing music. Later I ended up getting front row for the show and if you haven’t seen the 1975 live then you really need to. Matt Healy gets so into the music and its amazing thing to see. He really engages the crowd into what he is doing. I think one thing that draws me to them is because they sound do different then music that is out today. I don't think they can really be considered one genre of music and seeing them live made me love them even more. They are huge in the UK and I think they are starting to make a bigger name for themselves in North America. The 1975 are going on tour in North America starting this April and if you have a chance to see them live you should! You won’t regret it.
